An Update from the DSSS Board

The board and team at DSSS continue to advocate on the social and economic benefits that the visitor economy brings to the many businesses across the network. We continue to be a voice for the bushfire affected areas and work our way through the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 shutdown.

With the NSW Government easing of restrictions today, this will allow more businesses to open up, more people to stay in work and more personal freedoms. Click for the latest COVID-19 restrictions.

While some restrictions have been relaxed, the NSW Government still prohibits holidaying in a regional area. However, there is still an opportunity to support the local economy by participating in some of the great ‘shop local campaigns’ with fabulous gifts and unique local products.

To get your business COVID Safe take a look at a new online planning tool from the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission to develop a plan to keep workers, customers and the community safe as they reopen or increase their activities in the weeks and months ahead. Click here

Hopefully it won’t be too long before we are welcoming visitors across the network.

Stay safe and well,

Destination Sydney Surrounds South team.

Australian Government unveils new $650 million package to support bushfire recovery

Earlier this week the Australian Government unveiled a new $650 million package to support locally-led bushfire recovery with a funding and support package from the Commonwealth. Part of the $2billion National Bushfire Recovery Fund, this package is focused on reviving and strengthening local economies. More than $448.5 million will be provided to Local Governments and be used to fast track the delivery of locally-led projects that align to recovery plans in impacted regions. This is most pleasing to see and even more pleasing that eligible programs include local tourism campaigns and infrastructure programs.
