Workforce shortages are a current challenge for visitor economy businesses. Job losses during the COVID-19 pandemic mean people have transitioned to other professions. Migrant workers, an important supplement to this workforce, have been locked out due to border closures.
As life returns to normal and demand for visitor economy businesses increases, so too has a demand for workers. Job vacancies in the sector have significantly increased from pre-pandemic (March 2019) to three years later (March 2022).
