Jacqui didn’t ever imagine owning a Restaurant, nor did she have much experience in hospitality when the opportunity to buy Wheeler’s Seafood Restaurant crossed her path. Having studied Marine Resource Management in Tasmania (including writing a thesis on oyster farming!), then travelling the world with the Volvo Ocean Race running a Marine Conservation programme, she was on a different trajectory career-wise. However, she was ready for a change and knew that she loved making people happy, and wanted to be in a beautiful environment.

So, the stunning and iconic building and garden setting of Wheeler’s became her new world, and a steep learning curve ensued after taking over the reins in December 2013. With a great team around her, Hugh Wheeler as her mentor, and the loving support of her family, she has continued the institution that is Wheeler’s; well-known for fresh oysters and beautiful seafood.

Jacqui has loved welcoming locals and visitors alike to the sun-drenched deck, the relaxed, elegant dining room, and the gorgeous, alfresco Oyster Bar, as well as the Takeaway Shop which features local oysters, seafood and the very best fish and chips.

Her most valued moments at Wheeler’s have come from being a part of the many special occasions that are celebrated, and sharing these experiences with her lovely guests and wonderful staff.
