NSW COVID-19 Update

NSW has made several changes to COVID-19 control measures, with several restrictions eased and new rules put in place regarding travellers from known virus hotspots in Victoria and Melbourne.

Restrictions on entertainment venues, weddings, community sport and other gatherings were eased last week, but strict physical distancing measures remain in place. For the latest health advice and information about restrictions, click the link below.

Tourism Australia Update

Tourism Australia’s next webinar (registration required) will be held on Friday 17 July at 11am when they will be joined by Michael Londregan, Managing Director Australia and New Zealand at Virtuoso; Michael Shoory, a Senior Economist at Oxford Economics; and communications and public relations expert, Chris Savage.

The eight briefings, kicking off on 20 July, will cover Tourism Australia’s priority markets including Australia with each briefing to include a regional market update, current market sentiment, consumer behaviour and key distribution insights.

Event Management Scholarship Program

Future industry leaders living in regional areas across the State can now apply for one of 12 event management scholarships thanks to the NSW Government’s partnership with Meetings and Events Australia (MEA).

Applications close 17th July 2020.

$9 Million to support NSW Seafood Industries

The NSW Government will deliver critical relief to the State’s commercial fishing, aquaculture and charter boat industries with Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall announcing $9 million in direct industry support. Mr Marshall said it had been a challenging year for the State’s seafood sector, with devastating bushfires and COVID-19 taking a toll on industry.

Great Southern Nights

Entertainment, hospitality and tourism businesses received a welcome boost with the recent announcement of Great Southern Nights, a new music event that will bring 1,000 COVID-safe gigs to Sydney and regional NSW in November.

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres announced the NSW Government initiative would be delivered by its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW in partnership with the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).

Domestic Visitor Profiles

Tourism Research Australia has released a series of Domestic Visitor Profiles that focus on common target markets and popular activities enjoyed by Australians while travelling domestically. The profiles highlight the type of people travelling to destinations that offer particular experiences, and can be used to assist tourism operators to better understand the needs of the diverse domestic market and support informed planning and marketing decisions.

International and Domestic Tourism numbers released for Year Ending March 2020

The latest international (IVS) and domestic (NVS) visitor numbers for year ending March 2020 are now available on our website.

These results include the impact of Australia’s summer bushfires and the early effects of COVID-19 on travel behaviour.

Travel by Australians

Domestic overnight spend was up 6% to $78.8 billion and trips increased 3% to 112.3 million during the year ending March 2020. This highlights the strength of the industry before summer bushfires and COVID-19 impacts, with trips falling 18% and spend down 10% to $17.9 billion in March quarter 2020.This is a text block.

New Small Business Recovery Grant

Thousands of small businesses reopening across the State after the COVID-19 shutdown will benefit from funding of up to $3,000.00 under a new Small Business Recovery Grant. Applications will open on 1st July to help businesses safely relaunch their operations with funds remaining from the $750 million.
